ENC 1210 Technical Writing

Oral Presentation Creation

Create a PowerPoint® presentation of 8 to 10 slides (no more than 10 slides) on the topic of oral presentations using the following scenario. Review the PowerPoint tutorial at this site: Click Here and Chapter 17 online reading (Making an Oral Presentation) for information (the documents can be found in the classroom Readings folders). Follow the guidelines for formatting PowerPoint® slides.
In this scenario (for part of your Final):
1. You have been asked to give a ten-minute speech on the basics of oral presentations.
2. You may include information outside of what is provided in-text; however, the presentation must include basic information that people who are not practiced public presenters need to know.
3. Remember you should NOT write in full sentences on slides since it is too word and only main ideas should be conveyed in bullet points.
4. You write your speech—full sentences—in the presenter’s notes section of the presentation.

Follow this order for your presentation slides:
1.     First slide: Title slide; includes speech’s title, student’s name, college’s name
2.     Second slide: Introduction
3.     Next 3-5 slides: Body of presentation; ensure that the body includes information on the following:
▪     Strong openings
▪     Choosing information to include
▪     Organizing information
▪     Strong closings
▪     How to handle audience questions
4.     Final side: Conclusion
5.     Works Cited slide: MLA format all source used

Because you will not be able to present this, ensure that each of the slides contains thorough speaker’s notes (presenter’s notes) you would use to give the presentation if you were presenting this in a lecture setting. Use the speaker’s notes to explain/elaborate on each of the brief items on the slide in detail, so your instructor understands your thought process behind each included item.

Be sure to have
•       correct font usage (size, style),
•       footers,
•       limited visuals on each slide,
•       clear, thorough presenter’s notes at the bottom of each slide,
•       limited, brief content on slides in the bullet points, and
•       use of source citations to show where your materials came from.

The visual and oral presentation rough draft version will be worked on during the last few week of classes online.  Then, the last week of class, you will submit it to the grade-book in its final format along with your writing portion of the business portfolio and any other assigned items.  See your Course Calendar.
